THE HISTORY of a Georgian House in Ireland by Interior Designers London

Cork, Ireland by Residential Interior Designers Purple Design. Built in the 1840’s the houses’ external appearance is Georgian Architecture. Internally the house had not been touched since it was originally built. When the houses’ extremely poor condition was uncovered, the interior design project originally perceived as a serious residential refurbishment turned into a complete rebuild apart for the external walls and the roof.

THE LAYOUT by Interior Designers London - Purple Design
The Georgian house is laid out over three floors; ground, lower ground and first floor.
Ground Floor at the front of the Georgian house is first floor at the rear, which adds to the drama and elegance of the reception rooms at this level especially when looking down over the Italianate gardens and the bay beyond (the feeling of the “belle etage”). On the ground floor there are two linked reception rooms, a study and guest WC, on the lower ground floor – the family room (consists of kitchen, dining, living), utility room, guest bedroom with ensuite bathroom and on first the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, family bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Purple Design Interior Architects scheme included; The remodelling of the fabric of the building included, replacing all internal walls and adjusting all floor and ceiling levels to provide a floor to ceiling height of 3 to 3.5 metres throughout. The roof structure was modified to remove the raking ceilings in the bedrooms.
To begin to regain some of the grandeur of this Georgian House, Interior Architects Purple Design started with the Interior Architecture which included; window and door reveal panelling being re-introduced, as well as deep moulded skirting, powerful plaster cornicing and ornate plaster architraves, all an enhanced version of the original but with an added contemporary interior design detail of shadow gap detailing.
Within this new classical interior design Purple Design incorporated the latest technology has been sympathetically fused with the classic proportion and detailing of the Georgian house; such as touch panel lighting with individually programmed mood settings as well as a music system wired to all rooms, and electric blinds and curtains and underfloor heating throughout. Materials and interior finishes to name but a few include a pallet of refined colours specifically created for this project, marble hall flooring as well as a bevelled mirrored wall extending from the lower ground floor to the roof and reflecting the elegant reeded staircase that has a pewter finish. In the Reception rooms, materials include three-metre high lacquered ebony and bevelled glass doors with nickel door handles, solid wenge herringbone floors, specially commissioned fire surrounds, glass and polished nickel Art Deco chandeliers, luxurious fabrics and bespoke furniture.
THE PROCESS:

• Preparation of tender documents: specification and drawings
• Tendering of project
• Negotiation and appointment of contractor
• On site supervision
• Management of the JCT contract
• Design of bespoke furniture and lighting throughout
• Procurement and delivery of all finishes such as windows and joinery, all floor finishes, wall finishes, bespoke doors and ironmongery
• Procurement, delivery and installation of all furniture, lighting and soft furnishing.
• Handover of house to clients
